The story behind the design — 1972
A 43-year-old woman in hepatic failure with a severe coagulation defect and acute gastric haemorrhage: bleeding fast, and unfit for theatre. In 1972 Josef Rösch, Charles Dotter and Michael Brown found the bleeding right gastroepiploic artery on angiography and occluded it through the catheter. The bleeding stopped. One case, four pages, and the principle every embolisation still runs on: find the feeder, get to it selectively, close it.
