The story behind the design — 1967

For most of its history radiology only looked. Then in 1967 Alexander Margulis published a short editorial in the American Journal of Roentgenology titled "Interventional diagnostic radiology — a new subspecialty," and gave the work a name before most departments would admit it existed. What he was describing is the radiologist who does not stop at the report: get access, navigate to the lesion, treat it. Three verbs. One specialty.
