Department of Radiology 1895 – Vintage Oversized T-Shirt

A vintage collegiate tribute to the discovery that changed medicine forever. Featuring an old-school Department of Radiology badge, Röntgen-inspired hand artwork and “EST. MDCCCXCV”—1895, the year X-rays were discovered.

The story behind the design — 22 December 1895

Six weeks after noticing that a screen across his laboratory glowed when it had no business glowing, Wilhelm Röntgen asked his wife Anna Bertha Ludwig to hold her hand still over a photographic plate. The exposure took about a quarter of an hour. What came back showed the bones of her fingers and the ring on one of them. She is said to have looked at it and answered: I have seen my death.

Six days later he submitted the paper. The hand on this badge is hers, and every department you have ever worked in starts with that plate.
